St. Petersburg-based UPC Insurance is transferring the majority of its remaining policies in Florida to a Tampa insurtech startup. Slide Insurance will acquire the exclusive renewal rights for 91,500 of UPC Insurance's Florida homeowners policies worth a combined $272 million of annual premiums, effective Feb. 1, according to the company. Slide CEO and Founder Bruce Lucas said the moment was right for the company to move forward with expansion plans in Florida now that lawmakers have reformed key pain points in the state's faltering property insurance market.
